Helden Joints For Man-Made Islands Project

Posted on 01st Mar 2006

Helden dismantling joints are contributing to the unique environment of The Palms in Dubai, the world's largest man-made islands.

Named after the palm trees they resemble when seen from the air, the intricate outline of the islands will increase the emirate's shoreline by 120 kilometres and accommodate prestigious residential, leisure, and entertainment developments.

The 200-800mm diameter dismantling joints were supplied by Helden agent Midland Trading LLC to contractor Wade Adams, which is laying pipelines carrying treated wastewater that will irrigate vegetation alongside access roads connecting the Jumeirah Palm to the main Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway.

Fitted with SS 316 fasteners and restraining tie-rods, the joints will provide flexible connections for valves on the irrigation lines, so that they can be removed easily for servicing.

Widely used in the Middle East, the Helden dismantling joint is a double-flanged fitting that can accommodate up to 50mm of longitudinal adjustment in flanged pipe systems, simplifying planning, installation and subsequent maintenance and modification.

As well as valves of all kinds, it is used in conjunction with flow metering equipment, pump sets, and flanged pipe and fittings in contexts such as pumping stations, water and sewage treatment works, plant rooms and meter chambers.
