Viking Johnson Couplings Take Strain On Merseyside
Posted on 01st Aug 2011
Viking Johnson will supply two large diameter couplings to repair the catastrophic mains burst on Liverpool Road in Huyton, Merseyside. The 40” inch diameter water main burst on the 18th July, sending huge plumes of water into the air up to 8 metres high, causing significant flooding. Many homes were evacuated and a primary school closed as the fire service pumped water and the water utility sought to get the mains under control. The water main has now been isolated and water supplies rerouted through other pipework in the area until the repair has been made.
Viking Johnson will supply a 1048mm straight coupling (available from United Utilities strategic stock) and a 1048 x 1084mm ductile to cast iron stepped coupling, which has been specially fabricated within 24 hours of the request at Viking Johnson's manufacturing plant in Hitchin. A new section of pipe will be installed into the existing pipeline using these couplings to repair the damaged area.
Eddie Engel, Viking Johnson, Sales Director said "We are very pleased to be able to fast track and supply within 24 hours a dedicated size stepped coupling for United Utilities to repair the burst main in Liverpool. We understand how important it is to be able to respond quickly to emergency situations and allow our customers to restore full service"
